George Dimitrov – Jojo

Born in Sofia in 2000, George Dimitrov – Jojo is a student of Prof. Paolo Pegoraro at the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz (KUG). He began his classical guitar studies at the age of 10 with Stolina Dobreva and Tsvetan Andreev at the National School of Music “L. Pipkov”, Sofia, from which he graduated in 2018.

George is the First Prize winner of many classical guitar competitions. Among the most recent are the 1st International Classical Guitar Competition “GuitArt”, Plovdiv, 2018; the 2017 Anna Amalia Competition, Weimar; the Grand-Prix winner of the Competition and the esteem statuette  “L. Haralambiev” for artistic performance at the 2017 International Guitar Competition “Acad. Marin Goleminov “, Kyustendil; the 2016 International Competition for Classical Guitar “Andres Segovia”, Monheim am Rhein; the 2nd Pleven Guitar Festival; the EMCY Special Prize and the First prize at the XII International competition “Young virtuosos”, Sofia, among others.

Jojo was recognized as a promising young talent by eminent organizations and cultural institutions in Bulgaria. He is the first young musician honored with the Olga Kamburova Award at the Bulgarian Annual Ceremony “Musician of the Year”, 2017 ran by the broadcast Allegro Vivace on the Bulgarian National Radio. The young guitarist has already recorded his first CD for the Bulgarian National Radio performing Trez piezas Españolas by Joaquin Rodrigo and La Catedral by Agustin Barrios – Mangoré.

Throughout the years George has been a scholarship holder of the Ministry of Culture of Bulgaria as well as of several Art Foundations supporting young talents such as Art Foundation “Stoyan Kambarev”, Yordan Kamdzalov Foundation, Dimitar Berbatov Foundation, Communitas Foundation. As a recipient of the Special Prize for Art given to him by the Art Foundation Stoyan Kambarev, George gave his solo concert debut with the famous Sofia Soloists Chamber Orchestra conducted by Prof. Plamen Djuroff, in 2017.

George has performed as a soloist with orchestras under many leading conductors such as Prof. Plamen Djuroff, Yordan Kamdjalov, Bernhard Steiner, Svilen Simeonov, Georgi Patrikov, Vesselin Baychev as well as in recital at many festivals and music events like the 2018 International Guitar Week, KUG; the 2018 International Festival Sofia Musical Weeks; the Art Foundation Stoyan Kambarev Annual Charity Ball in London under the patronage of HRH Prince Kyril of Bulgaria; the XII International Festival “Moscow meets friends”; the International Festival Laureates days “Katya Popova”, Pleven, among others.
